Egg donor program

Egg Donation is designed to help women with specific reproductive problems to have a baby. Many of these women have undergone premature ovarian failure, either due to natural cessation of ovarian function, or due to chemotherapy or radiotherapy. In addition, some women have ovaries that cannot be adequately stimulated for In Vitro Fertilization, while other women have transmissible genetic problems, which precludes the use of their own eggs.

Recipient couples meet with an egg donor coordinator to discuss the donation process and the characteristics they are searching for in a donor. Egg donor coordinators search the donor database for matches and provide the couples with donor profiles containing medical history, family background, and personality profile. Initial consultations and egg donor selection is also available via e-mail  sarmite.spigule@egv.lv

All our donors are fertile and have at least 1-2 children. The average age is 29. We screen donors for HIV 1 and 2, syphilis, A, B, C hepatitis and common STD, as well as do the karyotype test . It is also possible to make additional genetic tests upon recipient’s request. Every donor is examined and given final approval by a medical doctor.

Regarding anonymity, we provide protection for both sides – donor knows nothing about recipients and recipient will know only donor's physical parameters. According to local legislation the offspring doesn’t have any rights to obtain information about the personality of gamete donors. We have also split registers for the donors and IVF procedures.
